Chiang Mai Police Hunt Knife-Wielding Bank Robber Who Escaped with 40,000 Baht

CHIANG MAI – A manhunt is underway after a lone suspect robbed a Kasikorn Bank branch on Charoen Muang Road in Chiang Mai’s Muang district, escaping with around 40,000 baht in cash on Monday afternoon.

According to Pol Lt Col Thawatchai Pongwiwatthanachai, commander of Chiang Mai Provincial Police, the masked robber, dressed entirely in black, stormed into the bank at the Nong Pratip intersection in tambon Tha Sala around 12 p.m.

Armed with a knife, the suspect threatened banking staff and demanded cash. In fear for her safety, a female employee handed him a brown envelope filled with cash. The entire incident lasted just five minutes.

After grabbing the money, the robber fled the scene and was seen boarding a red songthaew (shared taxi truck) heading toward San Kamphaeng district, police said.

CCTV footage captured the suspect, described as being approximately 160 cm tall, during the escape. Investigators are now analyzing security camera images and questioning potential witnesses as they intensify efforts to locate and apprehend the suspect.
