22 Illegal Migrants Caught Crossing Myanmar Border into Kanchanaburi

KANCHANABURI, Thailand — Authorities apprehended 22 undocumented migrants in the Sangkhla Buri district of Kanchanaburi province on Sunday as they attempted to illegally cross into Thailand from Myanmar.

The operation, led by the Surasee Task Force with support from local security units, was launched following intelligence reports of planned border crossings in the area. The migrants were intercepted near Ban Dong Sak in the Wang Ka subdistrict, close to the Thai-Myanmar border.

Upon inspection, none of the individuals were able to present valid identification documents. Initial questioning revealed that the group had traveled from Payathongzu, Myanmar, using motorcycles and natural trails to bypass official checkpoints. They were reportedly awaiting transport by boat deeper into Thailand, with Kanchanaburi and Samut Sakhon named as their intended destinations for employment.

Each migrant had allegedly agreed to pay brokers between 15,000 and 20,000 baht upon reaching their destination.

The group has been handed over to the Sangkhla Buri Police Station for legal processing. Authorities are continuing their investigation to identify and apprehend those responsible for organizing the illegal entry.
