Police Bust Major Drug Trafficker in Bangkok, Seize Nearly 50kg of Narcotics
Bangkok, Thailand — A key figure in a major Bangkok drug network has been arrested following a targeted operation by Metropolitan Police Division 8, leading to the seizure of nearly 50 kilograms of illegal drugs.
The suspect, identified as 28-year-old Tosapon, was apprehended at around 6 a.m. on May 13 on Soi Ramkhamhaeng 21, Intersection 3, in the Wang Thonglang area. Officers confiscated 7 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine and 42 kilograms of ketamine in the operation.
The arrest came after an extended investigation into low-level drug dealers in the capital, which led authorities to a larger network believed to store narcotics in hidden compartments within vehicles and distribute them incrementally to smaller sellers. Tosapon was reportedly responsible for managing drug deliveries and concealing the substances in cars and vans.
Police began surveillance early on May 13 and spotted Tosapon driving into the area. A search of his vehicle uncovered 35 kilograms of ketamine, prompting his immediate arrest. He was charged with possession of a type 1 narcotic (methamphetamine) and a type 2 psychotropic substance (ketamine) with intent to distribute.
Further examination of the suspect’s mobile phone communications led officers to a second vehicle — a white van parked nearby — which contained an additional 7 kilograms of methamphetamine and 7 kilograms of ketamine.
Authorities say the investigation is ongoing as they work to dismantle the broader drug network and identify additional suspects involved in the operation.
