Fantasy Elephant Sculptures Celebrate Global Culture at ‘Art of Chang’ Exhibition
Bangkok, May 22 — A whimsical parade of 36 fantasy elephant sculptures has taken over MunMun Srinakarin as part of The Art of Chang exhibition, offering visitors a vibrant blend of art, culture, and conservation. The exhibition, presented under the theme “From Nature to the Extraordinary,” is part of the internationally acclaimed Elephant Parade project.
This latest stop in the Elephant Parade’s global tour transforms the Bangkok-based craft department store into a living art gallery, showcasing elephants as powerful cultural and artistic symbols. Each sculpture, created by artists from around the world — including several from Thailand — tells a unique story through intricate designs and creative interpretations.
Organized in collaboration with MunMun Srinakarin, led by Marketing Events Manager Pimolpan Ngamkham, and Elephant Parade, represented by Asia and Middle East Managing Director Jeannette Woelinga, the exhibition aims to promote the elephant not only as a wildlife icon but also as a symbol of strength, grace, and deep spiritual connection between humans and nature.
“Elephants are more than animals — they embody the soul of nature,” said Woelinga. “Through this exhibition, we invite people to reflect on coexistence, compassion, and creativity.”
Highlights include “Ru-Dee,” a striking white elephant sculpture covered in multicoloured handprints. Created by the multicultural INK Team, the artwork symbolizes peace, unity, and the power of human connection. The name Ru-Dee means “heart” or “soul” in Thai, capturing the essence of their message.
Another standout piece is “Catrina Elefante,” inspired by Mexico’s La Catrina of Day of the Dead fame. This seated sculpture features elegant white skulls and vivid flowers against a dramatic black base, reflecting themes of remembrance, beauty, and life beyond death.
Far from a static display, The Art of Chang is described by organizers as a dialogue between nature and humanity — with each elephant’s skin serving as a canvas, each brushstroke as a heartbeat, and each sculpture as a tribute to the natural world’s quiet power.
