Business leaders are urging the government to ensure transparency and accountability in the implementation of the 400-billion-baht emergency loan programme, pending approval from the Constitutional Court.
Thammasak Sethaudom said the loan package is necessary to support households and businesses affected by the energy crisis, while also helping Thailand transition towards cleaner energy and reduce reliance on fossil fuels.
However, concerns have been raised over the legality of the decree and the risk of corruption in state spending. Opposition lawmakers argue that part of the loan allocation for energy restructuring may not qualify as an urgent economic necessity under constitutional provisions.
According to a recent survey by the Joint Standing Committee on Commerce, Industry and Banking, corruption remains a major issue for businesses, with many respondents reporting requests for “extra payments” linked to state contracts and project bidding processes.
