Air India offers new flights to London Gatwick

With new London Gatwick flights, Air India improves connectivity to the UK

49 flights per week are presently offered on the airline’s UK network.

By launching additional routes to the UK’s second-largest airport, London Gatwick, Air India has increased its reach within the country. The majority of its flights to the UK are still directed to Heathrow, but as part of its transformation plan, it has added connections from four Indian cities to Gatwick.

Gatwick, hello!

Air India has increased its footprint in the UK by establishing four new services from London Gatwick to Ahmedabad, Amritsar, Cochin, and Goa. These services were formerly operated from London Heathrow, and each route now has three flights each week. On March 26, service to Kochi began, followed the following day by flights to Ahmedabad and Amritsar.

The service between Gatwick and Goa will start on March 28. With effect from March 26th, Air India is also boosting its weekly frequency from London Heathrow by five, with an increase in flights to Delhi from 14 to 17 times per week and to Mumbai from 12 to 14 times per week.

Due to fleet expansion and new services, according to Air India, approximately 500 jobs are projected to be generated in the UK. As stated by Campbell Wilson, CEO & MD of Air India, “We want to considerably improve connectivity between India’s major cities and important worldwide destinations and be recognized as India’s Flying Ambassador to the world as part of our five-year transformation plan, Vihaan.AI.”

Additionally, these flights will meet the rising demand for nonstop flights between the UK and these well-known Indian cities as well as between significant Indian destinations.

The Boeing 777 will return to Heathrow.

Air India has preserved its Boeing 777 aircraft for years, using it exclusively for American flights. Air India uses its Dreamliners to travel to Europe, Australia, and the Middle East, excluding Washington, D.C.

Nonetheless, the airline has stated that it intends to replace its current fleet on the London Heathrow to Delhi and Mumbai routes with Boeing 777 aircraft, initially on the Delhi route, beginning in May 2023. This will make it possible for travelers traveling to the UK to resume using first class service. Currently, Air India has 49 flights scheduled to the UK.

The airline will offer 12 weekly flights to Gatwick, with three flights each week from Amritsar, three from Ahmedabad, three from Goa, and three from Kochi. These flights will depart from Amritsar on Monday, Thursday, and Saturday. There are additionally six flights to Birmingham and 31 weekly flights from Delhi and Mumbai to London Heathrow.

growing rapidly

The Tata Group didn’t waste any time expanding Air India’s global capabilities. In recent months, it has added new widebodies and returned a large portion of the carrier’s grounded aircraft to operation. In addition to increasing the number of flights from Mumbai and Bengaluru to the US, it now offers 80 weekly flights to seven significant cities in the UK and Europe after resuming service to several popular locations including Milan, Vienna, and Copenhagen.
