AirAsia Expanding Services To China And Australia

Flights to Beijing and the Gold Coast have resumed, helping AirAsia X grow its global network.

Australians now have another option for traveling to Asia as AirAsia X resumed service from Kuala Lumpur to the Gold Coast yesterday. The sentimental service followed the path of AirAsia X’s inaugural route, which was introduced more over 25 years ago.

Back to the beginning

Due to pandemic limitations, AirAsia X began service from Kuala Lumpur to Queensland’s Gold Coast in November 2007, but it has been on hold for more than two years. The Gold Coast is one of Australia’s top tourist sites for both domestic and foreign visitors, and it has long been one of AirAsia X’s most well-liked locations.

Flightradar24.com reports that flight D7200, bound for the Gold Coast, Australia, took off from Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KUL) on Friday at 23:43. A nine-year-old Airbus A330-300 with the manufacturer serial number 1433 and the registration 9M-XXK flew the flight.

It arrived at Gold Coast Airport (OOL) at 09:34 in the morning of the previous day, after a 7:51-hour flight. Before taking off at 11:36 and returning to Kuala Lumpur at 17:44, the A330-300 was on the ground for slightly over two hours. After that, it made a return trip to Australia as aircraft D7288, touching down in Sydney at 9:45 this morning.

AirAsia X (AAX) has a fleet of thirteen A330-300 aircraft, of which three are dormant, according to statistics from ch-aviation.com. Also, according to the statistics, it has 20 Airbus A321XLRs, 15 A330-900neos, and one A330-300 on order.

The flight was attended by Benyamin Ismail, CEO of AirAsia X, who said that it was a very significant day for the airline and will “strengthen the relationships between Malaysia and Australia.”

We will always have a special place in our hearts for the Gold Coast, and what makes this announcement even more of a significant milestone is that AAX is now the sole airline linking Kuala Lumpur directly to the Gold Coast and to Queensland as a whole.

For visitors who want to visit one of Australia’s most well-known tourist destinations as well as for Australians looking to visit Malaysia or continue on throughout Asia with our vast global network including to leisure hotspots like Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, India, and more, “our newest route now provides the most affordable and convenient air travel option for guests.” More AAX flights to China.

The Airbus A330-300, registration (M-XBF), left Beijing at 03:32 and, after a 5:49 hour flight, landed in Kuala Lumpur at 09:21. In March, AAX resumed flights from Kuala Lumpur to Shanghai and Hangzhou in China; it has now resumed services to Beijing. Flight D7342 left KUL on March 30th at 19:15 and arrived at Beijing Daxing International Airport (PKX) at 00:55 on Friday.

Now that China has resumed granting tourist visas, AAX anticipates it will witness an increase in demand for flights between KL and PKX. AirAsia X last operated the route on April 12th, 2020, although it operated in and out of Beijing Capital Airport. The route will operate twice weekly (PEK).

Beyond that, AAX is considering significant growth to more distinctive, less popular sites in China in the near future, in order to satisfy growing expected demand.
