Andrew Tate placed under Romania house arrest

Internet celebrity Andrew Tate was placed under house arrest in Romania.

While being investigated for alleged rape and human trafficking, Tate, his brother Tristan, and two Romanian women were put under house arrest.

Andrew Tate, a divisive online influencer and self-described misogynist, and his brother have been placed under house arrest while they are being looked into for alleged rape and human trafficking, a Romanian court having rejected the prosecution’s request to keep them in police custody until late April.

Since December 29, Tate, his brother Tristan, and two suspects who are Romanian women are being held in police custody. Investigators are looking into them on suspicion of rape, human trafficking, and organizing a gang to molest women.

The brothers, who vigorously refute every accusation leveled against them, were freed from the police central detention facility in Bucharest at roughly midnight [21:00 GMT] on Friday. They were accompanied by their Romanian attorneys. They also released the two female suspects.

Eugen Vidineac, Tate’s attorney, told reporters on Friday, “We regard the court ruling as legal, thorough, and correct.”

He claimed the brothers were banned from speaking to witnesses or leaving the house without permission.

According to Vidineac, “We do not yet know the court’s reasoning or whether there are more interdictions.” Outside the jail, Tristan Tate told reporters in Romanian, “We’re coming home.” Andrew, his brother, made no remarks.

Outside the prison, a small gathering of Tate’s internet admirers was waiting for them, yelling “Top G,” as Andrew Tate is known. The Tate brothers’ attempt to be released on bail was turned down by the same Bucharest court of appeals earlier this week.

Judges have already extended the Tate brothers’ detention because they constituted a flight risk and their release could endanger the investigation, according to previous orders. Ramona Bolla, a spokeswoman for Romania’s DIICOT anti-organized crime unit, told the Reuters news agency that “all four are getting out tonight.” “The investigation continues, the decision is definitive.”

When asked if Friday’s decision would hasten the probe, Bolla responded that prosecutors had until the end of June to bring the suspects to trial.

Prosecutors have charged the four suspects in accordance with Romanian law, but the matter is still being looked into and has not yet been tried. According to the prosecution, the Tate brothers lured their claimed victims into relationships or marriages by engaging in seduction. The victims were subsequently forced to create pornographic content on social media platforms, which brought in significant cash rewards.

Some years ago, the Tate brothers relocated to Romania, and Tristan now has a son who was born after his arrest.

The Tate brothers’ belongings, including a collection of high-end vehicles, were taken by Romanian police who conducted the raids as part of the investigation.

According to a court document from January, one woman was “recruited” from the UK after falling in love with Andrew Tate, who then transported her to Romania “for the purpose of sexual exploitation.”

Tate made an appearance on “Big Brother” in the UK in 2016, but he was later kicked off the program after a video surfaced of him assaulting a woman. After that, he moved to social media to spread his controversial ideas before being banned for hate speech and misogynistic remarks from a number of social media sites.

Once South African-born billionaire Elon Musk acquired the business, Tate was given permission to rejoin Twitter, where he has 5.5 million followers.
