Bangkok club Sonic raided by police who discover illegal drug operation

In a decisive move against illicit activities, a joint operation led by Mr. Anutin Charnvirakul, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior, targeted SONIC Pub, an establishment located on Pradit Manutham Road, Lat Phrao district, Bangkok. The raid, which took place at 02:20 AM on the 10th of December, uncovered a scene of rampant law-breaking inside the one-story building.

Operation Reveals Significant Law-Breaking

The pub, operating without a permit and beyond legal hours, was hosting a lively party with 220 attendees when authorities swooped in. Law enforcement agencies, including the Department of Provincial Administration, immediately ceased the sound system and took control of the situation. Despite some guests attempting to escape, they were efficiently contained by the officers.

Drugs and Illegal Activities Uncovered

SONIC Pub, found to be operating without a valid business permit since 2018, was discovered to be more than just a location for after-hours partying. A designated area for drug use was found within the restrooms, with various types of narcotics scattered on the floor and inside plastic bags. These included ecstasyketamineice, and Happy Water. A striking 122 attendees tested positive for drug use, confirming the establishment’s role in the drug trade.

Strong Action Taken

Following the revelations, the pub has been ordered to close for five years under the National Council for Peace and Order’s (NCPO) mandate 22/2558. The Deputy Prime Minister emphasised that this move was part of the government’s policy to stimulate the economy by allowing entertainment venues to operate until 4 AM, provided they adhere strictly to licensing and legal requirements. This incident serves as a stern warning for other establishments to operate within the boundaries of the law.
