The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) intends to collaborate with a private company to launch a motorcycle taxi ride-hailing application.
Deputy Governor Wisanu Subsompon of Bangkok mentioned that the BMA is aiming to enhance the services provided by motorcycle taxi operators. The BMA has partnered with Krungthep Thanakom (KT), the investment branch of the BMA, to conduct a trial project for testing the application.
“We at the BMA and KT will not finance the app’s development. Instead, we will act as facilitators and cooperate with interested app developers in testing their applications within our designated trial zones,” stated Wisanu.
The BMA will identify specific areas for testing and will introduce the developers and their applications to groups of motorcycle taxi riders while informing the public about the initiative.
With the app, when individuals request motorcycle taxi services, only riders in the nearest vicinity will be able to respond to the call. The app’s benefit lies in customers being able to swiftly connect with a ride without the need for extended waiting times or searching for a service. The fare will be calculated based on the distance travelled.
Moreover, the app will mandate the registration of both motorcycle taxi operators and users to enhance safety measures. The trial period also aims to assess the practicality of the app’s functions.
Wisanu confirmed that one app developer has expressed interest in participating in the trial run. The BMA intends to introduce the app at the upcoming BKK Expo 2024 event scheduled for next month.
