Bangkok police station shines as majority of others fail transparency test

bangkok police station shines

According to the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC), 86% of roughly 1,500 Thai police stations failed to pass integrity and transparency exams.

The information was disclosed on Tuesday when Pol Gen Watcharapol Prasarnrajkit, the chairman of the NACC, revealed the findings of the yearly integrity and transparency assessments (ITA) of government services that directly serve the public, such as police stations and district offices.

A passing ITA score for any agency is 85, while a score of 95 or higher is considered exceptional.

According to Pol Gen Watcharapol, police stations were a cause for concern because their average score was too low.

830,822 members of the general public and 111,305 police officers evaluated statewide police station operations and activities of the Metropolitan Police Bureau. All 1,484 stations received an average ITA score of 67.43.

Only 208 stations out of a total of 1,276 passed the ITA exam.

Yan Nawa Police Station, a part of Metropolitan Police Division 6, had the best score, earning 99.02 points.

24 stations received a score of 0. They were Napho station in Ubon Ratchathani, Laem Ngop and Ao Cho in Tak province, Hin Lek Fai in Buri Ram, Mueang Chan and Tum in Si Sa Ket, and Laem Ngop and Ao Cho in Tak province.

Apart from police stations, 33,206 members of the public and 43,574 officials evaluated Bangkok’s district offices, giving them an overall passing score of 93.95. One district office failed the test, and that’s it.

With a score of 99.09, the Phasicharoen office came out on top, while Phra Nakhon came in last with a score of 84.28—just shy of the required 85.

District offices had an average passing score of 91.21 out of 229,490 officials and 602,023 members of the public who participated in surveys across the provinces. 755 district offices, or 86%, achieved passing marks, while 123, or 14%, did not.

Tak’s Umphang district office had the best score, earning 98.94 points overall. The Surat Thani neighborhood of Wiang Sa received the lowest rating, 53.98.
