Bangkok will tighten rules for diesel vehicles

Diesel vehicles bangkok one

On December 1, Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt announced stricter exhaust standards for diesel vehicles to combat PM2.5 microdust particles. Following a meeting with the Energy Ministry, measures include more frequent engine oil changes and car filter replacements.

The governor plans to discuss reducing agricultural waste burning with neighboring provinces and emphasized the importance of air quality measurement. Despite having 70 measuring stations, Chadchart highlighted the need for high-quality microsensors, thanking the French Embassy for their AIRLAB Microsensors Challenge.

The project aims to install 1,000 microsensors in Bangkok to enhance data for decision-making. French Ambassador Jean-Claude Poimboeuf, at the event, stressed France’s commitment to global efforts against air pollution and expressed support for Franco-Thai collaboration in environmental protection, citing the World Health Organization’s statistic of over 30,000 annual deaths in Thailand due to ambient air pollution. Poimboeuf also highlighted France’s support for the United Nations regional commission UN-ESCAP’s focus on air pollution as a priority issue.
