An adviser to the public health minister warned on Monday that before bar closing hours be extended to 4am, sufficient procedures must be in place to prevent growing societal problems like gun violence, road accidents, and drug misuse.
Entertainment establishments should not have their closing times extended from 2am to 4am, as recommended, according to Vicharn Meenchainan, unless all precautions have been taken.
He emphasized the importance of taking precautions to safeguard minors from the harmful effects of alcohol, gambling, and drugs, including measures to ensure the safety of patrons.
The same may be said about entertainment districts. He added that the risk of drunk driving accidents due to extended drinking hours should be considered.
United Thai National Party List MP Thanakorn Wangboonkongchana shared these worries. He said that law enforcement and government officials were responsible for making sure consumers were not under the influence of narcotics or armed.
He argued that lawbreakers require severe punishment.
