Bus Fire Claims Lives of 22 Students and 3 Teachers

A tragic fire on a bus in Pathum Thani on Tuesday claimed the lives of 22 students and three teachers who were on a field trip.

Nineteen passengers managed to survive the blaze and were quickly transferred to hospitals for treatment.

The bus was transporting 38 students, ranging from Kindergarten 2 to Matthayom 3, along with six teachers from Wat Khao Praya Sangkharam School in Lam Sak district, Uthai Thani.

Khukhot police confirmed that 23 students and three teachers perished, trapped in the raging inferno aboard the bus.

Pol Maj Gen Sillakhom Iemwon, deputy commander of Provincial Police Region 1, verified that 19 individuals were rescued and taken to Pat Rangsit Hospital and other medical facilities.

Authorities at Khukhot station were notified around noon about the bus fire occurring on the inbound lane of Vibhavadi Rangsit and Phahon Yothin roads, near the Zeer Rangsit shopping center in Lam Luk Ka district, which is referred to by two names in this area.

Rescue teams arriving at the scene reported that the bus’s front left tire had blown out, leading to a fire in the wheel. The driver lost control of the vehicle, causing it to strike the median barrier, and the flames quickly spread throughout the bus.

The bus was part of a three-bus convoy transporting students to an exhibition at the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand in Bang Kruai district, Nonthaburi. The trip had begun with a visit to History Park in Ayutthaya, and it was intended to be a one-day educational excursion.

The involved bus belonged to Chinnaboot Tour, a company based in Sing Buri.

Police reported that the driver was missing after the accident, and his phone was turned off. They are actively working to locate him.

The school communicated with parents via a Facebook post, urging them to gather at the school, which had established a coordination center to assist families affected by the tragedy.

Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra expressed condolences to the families of those who lost their lives or were injured, announcing that the government would cover medical expenses and provide financial assistance to the victims and their bereaved families.
