City Official Alleged to Have Requested 9 Million Baht to Preserve Golf Course

On Monday morning, police apprehended a public works official from the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration for purportedly soliciting a nine-million-baht bribe to alter the route of a planned new road, steering it away from a golf course.

The Central Investigation Bureau disclosed that the arrest of the official took place at his residence in Nonthaburi province. As part of the investigation, his high-end vehicles and five Harley-Davidson motorcycles were seized for further scrutiny.

Reports indicate that the arrest was part of a coordinated series of raids conducted at 6 am across five locations spanning Nakhon Ratchasima, Nonthaburi, and Pathum Thani provinces.

Allegedly, the public works official and his associates sought a nine-million-baht bribe to adjust a road development project involving Liab Waree Road to avoid impacting a golf course.

Pol Maj Gen Charoonkiat Parnkaew, deputy commissioner of the Central Investigation Bureau, spearheaded the search at the official’s residence in Nonthaburi. Further details, including identities, were not immediately released to the public.
