The Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT) is intensifying its monitoring of airfares amid ongoing disruptions linked to the Middle East situation, while collaborating with six airlines to lower ticket prices by 15–30% during the upcoming Songkran holiday. In addition, more than 29,000 extra seats will be introduced to accommodate increased travel demand.

CAAT said it has been closely tracking the regional conflict, which has affected aviation operations and disrupted connectivity on several routes, particularly those relying on Middle Eastern transit hubs.

Despite these challenges, direct flights between Thailand and Europe continue to operate as usual, with airlines adjusting flight paths where necessary. However, passengers who previously relied on Middle Eastern connections are now shifting to direct flights, leaving mainly higher fare classes available.

Travellers may opt to connect through alternative hubs, such as China, which can offer more affordable fares, though typically with longer travel times.

Some Middle Eastern airline services have resumed, but overall capacity remains limited.

CAAT has advised passengers transiting through the region to check flight statuses and airline requirements carefully.

ACM Manat Chuanprayoonsuk, CAAT director-general, said the authority is closely monitoring ticket prices, particularly during peak travel periods.

For the Songkran holiday from April 10–15, CAAT has coordinated with Thai Airways, Bangkok Airways, Thai AirAsia, Nok Air, Thai Lion Air and Thai Vietjet to increase capacity and help ease travel costs.

The six airlines have agreed to reduce fares by 15–30% across 11 round-trip routes, including Bangkok–Chiang Mai.
