Cool weather to stay around for the time being

Cool temperatures are expected to persist until the weekend, with additional rainfall anticipated in the South, according to the Thai Meteorological Department (TMD).

The weather bureau indicates that the cool air affecting much of the North, Northeast, Central Plains, and Bangkok will continue, although the cold trough may weaken slightly on Tuesday and Wednesday. However, from Thursday to Saturday, a new trough is expected to arrive, causing temperatures to drop again.

The North and Northeast, in particular, will experience this cold snap, with highland areas already reporting single-digit temperatures.

In the South, widespread heavy rainfall is forecasted from Wednesday through Friday. The TMD predicts that the cool spell will begin to ease across much of the country from January 19 to 27, with warmer weather anticipated due to a shift in wind direction.

On Monday, the agricultural weather station in Sakon Nakhon recorded one of the lowest temperatures in the country at 6.6 degrees Celsius. In Bangkok, the Bang Na district registered the lowest temperature at 15.2 degrees, while Suvarnabhumi Airport recorded 15.9 degrees.

In Loei, Netnapha Ngamnet, chief of Phu Ruea National Park, reported that temperatures in elevated areas have dipped to zero, attracting over 500 visitors to the park amid the cold weather.
