A couple has been apprehended at a condominium for cultivating and vending “magic mushrooms” online, advocating their potential healing properties. The Metropolitan Police Bureau officers took the duo, known as Banyong, 40, and Amita, 36, into custody at their residence in Chatuchak district.
During the operation, authorities discovered 181 bags containing psilocybin mushrooms, weighing 117 kilograms, alongside various equipment like mobile phones, air purifiers, and a drying machine. The couple now faces charges for unlawfully producing, possessing, and selling Category 5 narcotics. The arrest came following a tip-off about their illicit activities, where they were reportedly shipping products via private delivery services.
Amita mentioned her background in the entertainment industry and how they ventured into mushroom cultivation after Banyong’s experience with selling minerals. They offered courses on mushroom consumption, claiming health benefits and even asserting mystical abilities. The duo purportedly earned a considerable income from their mushroom business, promoting their products as cure-alls and providing instructional courses on their usage.
