Central Pattana Plc (CPN), a retail and property developer, is forecasting growth in the shopping mall sector, driven by a tourism resurgence and supportive government policies in 2025.
“Since the end of last year, the Thai retail sector has experienced a revival due to government initiatives aimed at stimulating the economy, including a 10,000-baht cash handout for vulnerable populations,” stated Nattakit Tangpoonsinthana, CPN’s chief marketing officer.
The sector will likely benefit from the “Easy E-receipt” tax rebate scheme, which is in effect from January 16 to February 28. This program enables individuals to claim personal tax deductions on eligible expenses at participating stores that issue electronic tax invoices.
Tourism incentives, such as visa exemptions for foreign visitors—including those from China—and government efforts to encourage airlines to increase flight frequencies are expected to further bolster the retail sector, Mr. Nattakit added.
Last year, Thailand welcomed over 35 million foreign tourists, according to the Economics Tourism and Sports Division of the Tourism and Sports Ministry. The government aims to attract 40 million foreign tourists this year, surpassing pre-pandemic numbers.
To celebrate various special occasions, CPN is organizing marketing campaigns at its malls across the country this year, including events for Children’s Day, Valentine’s Day, Chinese New Year, Songkran, and activities planned for Pride Month in June. These campaigns aim to attract both local and international tourists from regions such as China, Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Russia, and the United States, as well as independent travelers.
As shoppers increasingly adopt more sophisticated lifestyles and seek unique shopping experiences, CPN is adjusting to these evolving consumer behaviors, Mr. Nattakit noted.
This year, the company plans to launch a 46-billion-baht mixed-use project called Dusit Central Park, which will feature a hotel, residential areas, retail spaces, and offices. Additionally, he mentioned the upcoming launch of Central Krabi, a 4.5-billion-baht project intended to serve both Krabi residents and tourists in the area.
