Destinations of Riyadh Air and Beverage Policy

Saudi Arabia’s upcoming flag carrier Riyadh Air is set to launch in the middle of 2025, marking a significant entry into the airline industry and potentially reshaping the landscape.

Heading the airline, CEO Tony Douglas envisions linking over 100 destinations worldwide with a fleet of modern aircraft bearing the distinctive purple-themed livery and RX flight code.

Backed by a substantial $50 billion investment from the Saudi Public Investment Fund, Riyadh Air aims to embrace global connectivity and leverage its strategic location to serve a vast customer base within an eight-hour flight radius of Riyadh, akin to competitors Emirates, Etihad, and Qatar Airways.

Presenting a unique approach to airline operations, Riyadh Air’s emphasis on digital technologies and innovation mirrors tech giants such as Microsoft and Google, setting it apart as a non-traditional airline.

Despite its innovative approach, Riyadh Air’s success hinges on foundational elements such as aircraft selection, route planning, and the policy concerning onboard beverage service.

Initial services are set to commence with Boeing 787s, offering luxurious business class amenities and premium economy options that bridge the gap between business and economy class. The airline plans to begin with European routes before expanding its network to cover diverse regions.

With a sizable order of Boeing 787s and future expansion possibilities, Riyadh Air foresees adding two new destinations each month, including major cities across Europe, Asia, the Gulf region, and North America.

Additionally, Riyadh Air looks to establish strategic partnerships with global carriers like Air China, China Eastern, Singapore Airlines, and Turkish Airlines to support its network growth and enhance connectivity.

Regarding the availability of alcohol on flights, Riyadh Air will comply with Saudi Arabia’s current legislation, which prohibits alcohol consumption in the country. However, the airline remains open to adapting its service policies in line with any future changes in the regulatory framework.

As Saudi Arabia embraces broader reforms to position itself as a key trade, financial, and tourism hub under Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman’s vision, Riyadh Air stands at the forefront of the country’s aviation ambitions, ready to reshape the industry with its innovative approach and global connectivity.
