Direct Flights From Indonesia’s Garuda to Kazakhstan Are Expected

For flights into Europe and beyond, the national airline of Indonesia may establish a transit hub at one of Kazakhstan’s international airports.

Could Kazakhstan be the next country served by Garuda Indonesia? Irfan Setiaputra, the CEO of Indonesia’s national airline, met with Daniyar Sarekenov, the ambassador of Kazakhstan to Indonesia, earlier this week to talk about starting flights between their two countries.

Both delegates discussed the potential use of one of Kazakhstan’s international airports as a transit hub for Garuda Indonesia during the discussion, which was confirmed by the country’s ministry of foreign affairs. In a statement, the Ministry commended the potential for improved transit between the two nations through the nation’s open sky policy, which would be advantageous to both the carrier and travel operators in Kazakhstan and Indonesia. In order to determine if further transit hubs or direct connections between Kazakhstan and South Korea should be opened, the country will first use Air Astana’s upcoming Almaty-Seoul-Denpasar stopover service to evaluate demand.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs further stated that this initiative will improve travel circumstances for Kazakh and Indonesian citizens. Soon, Air Astana is anticipated to provide more information on the new route.

Increasing number of flights in Kazakhstan

Earlier this year, Kazakhstan’s civil aviation authority (AAK) declared that it will expand its open sky policy to carriers flying between Asia and Europe, strengthening its airports as stopover hubs. This decision came as a result of many airlines’ limited access to Russian airspace. The policy eliminates flight limitations and grants airlines the right to fly on international routes without being operated by a Kazakh company.

The plan has been mainly effective for the nation and its carriers, with Air Astana achieving strong growth despite losing the majority of the Russian aviation market. Peter Foster, the carrier’s chief executive officer, mentioned the company’s plans to take advantage of the expanding market niche for a stopover service between China and Europe in an interview with Reuters in March.”A lot of traffic going in the western direction, whether that was going to Europe or the U.S., was traveling from this region via the Russian Federation prior to the start of the war in Ukraine,” Foster told Reuters.

That is obviously no longer the case. A change of gravity has therefore occurred, and we are in a very good position to benefit from that change.

in the summer

Due in part to the fast expansion of its low-cost subsidiary, FlyArystan, the airline reported a record-breaking $78.4 million after-tax profit, with revenues surging to $1.03 billion for the fiscal year.

The airline is already preparing to relaunch services into Greece, Turkey, Montenegro, and Georgia before the summer travel season, while vacationers wait for further information about the airline’s impending Bali (DPS) service. On June 1, flights from Almaty to Heraklion (HER) will take off. On June 2, flights from Almaty to Bodrum (BJV), and on June 3, flights from Almaty to Podgorica (TGD), will also take off. On June 6, five weekly flights from Air Astana’s hub in Almaty will start serving Batumi (BUS).
