The Thai government has once again revived plans for a potential “Disneyland Thailand,” unveiling a proposal for a THB300 billion mixed-use development within the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC).

The proposed project would combine a world-class theme park with a sports centre, entertainment venues and commercial space, all within a single integrated development. The initiative would be financed entirely by private investors under a public-private partnership (PPP) model, with no direct state investment.

The renewed discussion follows comments by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn, who suggested moving forward with a major theme park project in Chonburi as part of the EEC development strategy.

Under preliminary plans, the project would cover approximately 800 hectares. Around 480 hectares would be allocated for the theme park, with an estimated investment of nearly THB200 billion, while the remaining 320 hectares would be developed into a sports and entertainment complex valued at more than THB100 billion. The total investment is estimated at roughly THB300 billion.

Despite the government’s latest push, The Walt Disney Company has not issued any official statement or confirmed any interest in participating in the project.

The concept of a “Disneyland Thailand” is not new. Over the past 26 years, the idea has resurfaced under at least five successive governments, yet it has never progressed to the signing of a formal agreement with Disney.
