Electricity and diesel prices cut

After its first meeting, the Cabinet decided to reduce the cost of electricity from Bt4.45 to Bt4.10 per unit, effective with the September billing cycle. Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin announced the decision to the media.

The cabinet also resolved to lower the cost of diesel at the pump to less than Bt30 per liter, starting on September 20. No information was provided regarding how the government will finance these price cuts or how long they will last.

The Pheu Thai party lists price reductions for gasoline and electricity as some of its top priorities in its election program. In order to lessen the financial strain on government employees, the cabinet also resolved to reduce the frequency of wage payments from once a month to twice a month.
