High temperatures to linger to April

high temperature bangkok one March 26 2024

The Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) has issued a warning to the public, particularly residents in the northern regions of the country, to prepare for higher temperatures than usual. These elevated temperatures are anticipated towards the end of the month and are expected to persist until early April.

As per Somkuan Tonjan, the director of TMD’s Meteorological Observation Division, various parts of Thailand, particularly the lower northeast, central, and eastern areas, will experience rainfall between today and Thursday due to a prevailing southerly wind. Post the rainy spell, temperatures will climb, leading to a potential surge in certain illnesses.

The Northern regions are projected to experience higher temperatures than average from March 30 to April 3. Conversely, the South can anticipate continuous rainfall in some areas due to an easterly wind, although no windy conditions are foreseen during this period.

In a separate update, multiple provinces in the North and Northeast continue to register unhealthy levels of PM2.5 pollutants. Chiang Mai was highlighted as the city with the fifth-highest air pollution globally on Monday, with an air quality index of 162. Data from the Natural Resources and Environment Ministry’s Air Pollution Solution Communication Centre depicted 26 provinces reporting PM2.5 levels surpassing 37.5 microgrammes per cubic meter (μg/m³), predominantly in the northern and northeastern regions.

Comparatively, the air quality in the Bangkok Metropolitan Region (BMR) was relatively better, with PM2.5 levels ranging from 16.6 to 32.8 μg/m³.
