Indian arrivals increase to 1.5 million due to visa policy

According to the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), around 1.5 million Indian tourists have visited Thailand this year, surpassing the target. This increase in Indian visitors is attributed to the introduction of a tourist visa exception scheme.

The visa exemption has resulted in a rise in daily Indian arrivals from 4,000 to 5,000-5,500 people. The TAT’s New Delhi and Mumbai offices have also launched promotional campaigns to further boost tourism from India. Additionally, Air India has started operating four flights per week on the New Delhi-Phuket route, with plans to increase to daily flights in January.

This has significantly increased the air-seat capacity between India and Thailand. The majority of Indian tourists were free independent travelers, and popular destinations included Bangkok, Phuket, and Krabi.
