Pattani, Thailand – A roadside bomb blast injured eight para-military rangers and one civilian in Pattani’s Muang district late this morning. The attack targeted an armor-plated pickup truck transporting the rangers, which was struck near Talubo Bridge.
Authorities suspect insurgents planted an improvised explosive device (IED) at a construction site by the bridge and remotely detonated it as the vehicle passed. The rangers were returning to their barracks in Narathiwat following repairs to their truck at the Inkhayut barracks.
Following the explosion, authorities closed the bridge to traffic as an explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) team combed the area for evidence and potential additional threats.
Security Forces Make Arrests in Yala
In a separate operation in Yala province, security forces arrested three suspects linked to the fatal shooting of Army Lieutenant Phuvivat Kamsong in Bannan Sata district on Tuesday. Acting on a tipoff, authorities located the men at a residence in Village 1, Bacho sub-district. The suspects were taken to the district police station for questioning regarding the officer’s killing.
Both incidents highlight ongoing security concerns in Thailand’s southern provinces, where insurgent activity remains a persistent challenge for authorities.
