Bangkok getting ready for the LGBTQ pride month

Bangkok is getting ready to hold a spectacular Bangkok Pride Month celebration in June, which promises to be an electrifying demonstration of diversity, equality, and unity. Be prepared to be astounded as the city transforms into a pillar of empowerment for the LGBTQIAN+ community and its allies.

Bangkok Pride Parade, which will light up the streets with color and fun on June 4, is just one of the exciting events that Thailand’s colorful city will host throughout the month. In order to compete for the right to host World Pride in the future, the full-form pride parade that was held last year under the Bangkok Naruemit Pride banner has been renamed Bangkok Pride for the 2023 edition. This is definitely a possibility due to a number of favorable variables, including the potential for a new government to adopt a more progressive policy that will result in the passage of the marriage equality law.

“Diversity is good, and it refers to more than just gender. The written word is neither in black and white nor does it have a precise capacity like a computer. At a news conference commemorating Bangkok Pride, Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt declared, “We must accept diversity if we want Bankgok to be a globally livable city.

The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) representative will be co-hosting the parade for the first time this year. Participants from the private sector will also include Marriott International and the social media site Tik-Tok.

The celebration, with “Beyond Gender” as its subject, will advocate for four issues: gender recognition, marriage equality, sex workers, and LGBTQ+ equal rights to health.

Six parades representing the LGBTQIAN+ community that want to convey and amplify their voices will be among the many colorful and inventive events that Bangkok Pride Month 2023 will provide. The parades’ organization will be centered around the topic “LGBTQIAN+ well-being,” highlighting the value of well-being for people of various sexual orientations and gender identities in raising their quality of life. Participating in the marches will be social and community organizations, activists, and LGBTQIAN+ networks. These are:

Parade 1: Community – This will emphasize the idea of “Beyond Gender Binary” and campaign for the acknowledgement of gender identities, including those of intersex, trans, and non-binary people within the diverse Thai LGBTQIAN+ community. Pop music will accompany the march.

Parade 2: Goal – The purpose of incorporating hip-hop and rap is to emphasize the message “My Body My Choice” and promote sex work’s decriminalization to protect the rights and professional independence of sex workers and sex creators. Additionally, the march will advocate for the legalization of sexual wellness products, advance comprehensive sex education and consent in schools, and denounce cultural practices that foster domestic abuse and violence.

Relationship Parade 3 This procession, which incorporates traditional Thai music (Morlam) and tells the story of the “Chosen Family” while adding color to the occasion, intends to encourage open acceptance of varied relationships and families, which would eventually lead to the legal recognition of same-sex unions and equal rights under marriage and constitutional law.

Fourth Parade: Environment – This march, with a “Peace & Earth” theme, promotes conservation of the environment and natural resources to guarantee a future that is equal and just for people of all genders. Jazz and blues music will accompany the march.

Health Parade 5 This parade is intended to promote for gender equality in access to medical services by addressing equal rights to healthcare. Additionally, it will demand that transgender people receive care that is gender affirming and will support making gender-affirming items lawful. K-pop, T-pop, and J-pop songs will be played during the procession.

Security is parade no. 6 This parade will convey the significance of safety and security for LGBTQIAN+ people using a rock music theme. It will campaign for personal mental wellbeing and religious equality for all genders while requesting assistance and safe spaces from all sectors.

The Bangkok Gay Men’s Chorus will perform on the Siam Center stage on June 4 as part of Bangkok Pride Month 2023, which will also include other events and celebrations throughout the month of June in addition to the parades.

Film festivals, parties, cruises, drag brunches, and pride-themed activities are also available to visitors at hotels like Kimpton Maa-Lai Bangkok, W Bangkok, and Marriott Marquis Queen’s Park.  The Bangkok Art and Cultural Centre, Samyan Mitrtown, Siam Discovery, Siam Center, and CentralWorld are among the locations.

Two major events will take place outside of Bangkok: the Amazing Chiang Mai Pride 2023 will run from May 28 to June 20, and the Pattaya International Pride Festival 2023 will take place on the beach road in Pattaya from June 23 to 25. On May 28, the procession actually takes place.
