LPG Tanker Runs Aground Near Pattaya After Avoiding Collision

Pattaya, March 25th, 2025 — A vessel carrying Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) ran aground near Larn Island, off Pattaya in Chonburi province, early this morning at around 2 a.m. The incident occurred after the tanker maneuvered to avoid a collision with another boat.

Authorities in Pattaya were alerted to the potential risk of a leak, but an initial inspection of the vessel revealed no signs of any leaks. Marine officials and police visited the site later this morning and conducted a thorough safety check to ensure no hazardous conditions remained in the area, which is close to the popular tourist destination of Pattaya.

According to the captain of the double-hulled LPG tanker, the accident happened when he veered off course to avoid colliding with another vessel. However, the captain of the second boat told police that the LPG tanker was speeding, which prompted him to take evasive action. He reported that his boat was damaged during the incident.

SC Group Holdings, the owner of the NP Bangpakong vessel, stated that a tugboat would be sent to re-float the stranded tanker and assess the damage. The company also issued an apology, attributing the accident to an employee’s negligence and accepting full responsibility for the incident.
