Lufthansa adds 4 more A350-900 from LATAM

As part of its ongoing opportunistic A350 fleet expansion plan, Lufthansa Group has inked a contract to purchase four additional A350-900s from Deucalion Aviation.

Later this year, the four airplanes will arrive. The Dutch lessor owns just four A350-900s, according to the ch-aviation fleets ownership module, despite the fact that the carrier withheld more information about the name of the aircraft. The former LATAM Airlines Brasil aircraft, which were built in 2016 (three units) and 2019 (one unit), have been parked in Victorville from 2020–2021. During the COVID-19 pandemic’s Chapter 11 restructuring, LATAM Airlines Group scrapped its entire A350 fleet.

According to earlier rumors, the Lufthansa Group was also interested in two other used A350-900 aircraft that were formerly flown by South African Airways (SA, Johannesburg O.R. Tambo) and owned by Park Aerospace Holdings.

Four ex-Philippine Airlines (PR, Manila Ninoy Aquino International) A350-900s that were added in the first half of 2022 are among the twenty-one A350-900s that the German holding now runs. It has a firm order for 33 more planes, five of which will go to Swiss (LX, Zurich). The group has also been opportunistically expanding its B787-9 fleet, focusing for both unclaimed white-tails and used aircraft returned by restructuring carriers.
