Man Arrested at Bangkok’s Mo Chit Bus Terminal with Loaded Firearm

Bangkok, April 10, 2025 — A 44-year-old man was arrested at Mo Chit Bus Terminal yesterday after police discovered a loaded firearm and ammunition concealed in his backpack. The arrest occurred around 11:00 AM on April 9, following a tip-off from terminal security personnel who noticed the suspect acting suspiciously near a metal detector.

Police Colonel Sanong Saengmanee, Superintendent of Bang Sue Police Station, dispatched a response team led by Deputy Superintendent Woraphat Sukhthai, who detained the man, later identified as Kitti. Upon searching his backpack, officers found a .38-caliber Smith & Wesson revolver loaded with 12 rounds of ammunition hidden in a black shoulder bag.

Kitti reportedly told officers that the gun belonged to his father and he was merely transporting it back to his hometown. However, police charged him with illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition and carrying a weapon in public without lawful reason.

“This is a serious matter,” Pol. Col. Sanong said. “We are taking extra precautions with the increased travel during Songkran.”

Authorities have since ramped up security measures at transport hubs nationwide, including bus terminals, train stations, and airports, to ensure public safety during the holiday rush.

Netizens praised the swift action of security staff and police, noting that the situation could have escalated had the weapon gone unnoticed.
