Man Arrested for Hurling Cement Block at Car on Bangkok Expressway
BANGKOK — A 45-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly throwing a cement block from a pedestrian bridge onto a moving car on Bang Na-Trat Road, severely damaging the vehicle and endangering the driver’s life.
The suspect, identified as Chalat (last name withheld), was captured on CCTV tossing the block from a bridge near Soi Bang Na-Trat 46. The projectile struck a black Volvo sedan being driven by a 20-year-old woman, shattering the windshield on the passenger side. Fortunately, she was not injured and immediately reported the incident to Bang Na Police on April 29.
Security footage showed the suspect wearing a face mask and carrying a bag filled with cement blocks. After throwing one block at the traffic below, he fled the scene.
Authorities from the Expressway Authority of Thailand (EXAT) confirmed that the structure of the Bang Na-Trat Expressway, also known as the Burapha Withi Expressway, was intact, and the block had been brought in from outside.
Police tracked the suspect to a roadside area at the Nawamin–Prasert Manukit intersection, where he was taken into custody. During questioning, Chalat admitted to the act, claiming he had consumed a bottle of rice whisky and acted out of stress due to financial troubles. He also has an extensive criminal record with 12 previous arrests.
He now faces an attempted murder charge, which carries a lengthy prison sentence if convicted. Police have remanded him to the Phra Khanong Criminal Court for further legal action.
