Man Dies in Police Custody: Heart Condition and Drug Use Cited
BANGKOK, Thailand – A 55-year-old man, identified as Pairoh (surname withheld), died while in custody at Khlong Tan Police Station, raising concerns over the circumstances of his death.
Arrest and Sudden Decline
Pairoh was detained on March 15 after causing a disturbance at Soi Phatthanakan 10 Intersection 1, reportedly under the influence of alcohol.
On the morning of March 16, his family visited the detention cell around 10 AM, only to find him unconscious, struggling to breathe, and with a faint pulse. Emergency responders from the Por Teck Tung Foundation attempted to assist him, but he was pronounced dead shortly thereafter.
Ongoing Investigation and Autopsy
Pairoh’s family disclosed that he had a history of heart disease and was a long-term drug user. However, the exact cause of death remains under investigation.
Authorities, including police, prosecutors, forensic experts, and pathologists, are working together to determine whether his medical history played a role or if any external factors contributed to his death.
An autopsy has been scheduled, and the case is being closely monitored as the community awaits transparency and accountability from the authorities.
