MGM and Galaxy to come to the Thai market

Two of the leading casino operators in the world are considering Thailand as a prospective market for their gaming establishments, which may interest you if you enjoy gambling.

In the event that gambling is soon legalized in Thailand, sources claim that MGM Resorts International and Galaxy Entertainment Group are looking into the prospect of constructing casino resorts there.

Thailand has always been a well-liked tourist destination, but casinos have been strictly prohibited because gambling is against the law in Thailand. A casino resort project, which received bipartisan support in the last House and is anticipated to be authorized by the current administration, is one of the most recent indications of change.

Legalizing casinos, according to the plan, will strengthen Thailand’s economy, generate jobs, draw more international tourists, and curtail unlawful gaming. Additionally, it advises that casinos be built in special economic zones or border regions and subject to stringent rules and taxes.

The two casino owners, Galaxy and MGM, appear eager to capitalize on Thailand’s potential as a regional center for gambling in Southeast Asia. Both businesses have set up local offices in Bangkok where they have reportedly been doing market research and lobbying activities.

In Macau, the largest gaming market in the world, Galaxy, which is owned by billionaire Lui Che-woo, is one of the biggest casino operators. In the Philippines and Japan, it also has interests. MGM, a Las Vegas-based company, runs casinos in the US, China, and Japan.

The Chinese government’s campaign on corruption and money-laundering has hurt Macau’s gambling income, and Las Vegas has been working to recover from the pandemic.

Both corporations are encountering difficulties in their key markets. They might diversify their revenue streams and insure against risk by entering new areas like Thailand.

Thailand entry, though, is not without its challenges. Still present in the nation are political upheaval, social unrest, a sluggish vaccination rollout, and an increase in Covid-19 infections.

Additionally, there will probably be criticism from religious organizations and anti-gambling campaigners who may claim that casinos would only cause greater social issues and moral deterioration.

It is therefore uncertain when Thailand will allow casinos. But if it does, it might completely alter the industry and the nation.
