New Arrest in 16 Billion Baht Medical Fraud Case Tied to Dr. Boon Vanasin
BANGKOK, Thailand – April 16, 2025 — Thai authorities have apprehended another suspect in the massive 16 billion baht healthcare investment fraud case involving Dr. Boon Vanasin, founder of Thon Buri Healthcare Group (THG).
The latest arrest was of 39-year-old Kotchaporn Suwannakut, an investment broker who had previously fled the country but recently returned to Thailand. She became the 15th out of 16 suspects taken into custody in connection with the high-profile fraud. Dr. Boon remains the sole suspect still at large, reportedly residing in China.
Justice Minister Tawee Sodsong personally questioned Kotchaporn at the Department of Special Investigation (DSI) headquarters today. According to DSI Director-General Yutthana Praedam, two of the three suspects who escaped abroad have now been captured.
The case involves allegations that investors were misled into funding fictitious healthcare initiatives, many of which were promoted under the THG brand. Over 605 individuals have filed formal complaints, collectively claiming they were defrauded out of 16 billion baht.
Dr. Boon is also wanted on charges of document forgery and misleading investors. His wife and daughter, also suspects, have surrendered but deny any involvement.
Separate DSI Probe Targets Steel Company
In an unrelated case, the DSI has launched a criminal investigation into Xin Ke Yuan Company Limited, a steel manufacturer accused of forging over 7,000 fake tax invoices worth more than 200 million baht. The alleged fraud occurred between July 2015 and March 2017, as reported by the Regional Revenue Office 3.
