On May 4 and 5, the Department of Rail Transport announced that about 2 million people traveled by rail

King Rama X’s coronation was observed on holidays on Thursday and Friday.

According to Pichet Kunadhamraks, the department’s director-general, passenger traffic increased by more than 2.5% during the course of the two days.

He said that during the course of two days, the State Railway of Thailand (SRT) transported 122,873 passengers.

With 46,755 passengers, the Southern line of the SRT had the most, followed by the Northeast line (30,372), the North line (21,204), and the East line (15,929). 8,613 more persons, according to Pichet, took the Mahachai-Maeklong route.

According to Pichet, during the two-day holiday, 1,779,354 individuals traveled by rail in Bangkok.

On the two days, 1,111,619 people used the Bangkok Mass Transit System, followed by 542,609 people who used the Metropolitan Rapid Transit system and 97,535 people who used the Airport Rail Link.

The SRT’s Northeast line and the Airport Rail Link both experienced one minor accident on Friday.

At Ayutthaya’s Bang Pa-in station, a man was struck by a train and had a fractured arm.

A train’s brakes failed as it approached the Airport Rail Link’s Lat Krabang station, but they were promptly fixed, he said, and the train was able to proceed normally.

The Department of Rail Transport aims to reassure the public that traveling by rail is secure, according to Pichet. He said that sniffer dogs check the baggage of passengers and that all drivers are subject to alcohol testing.
