Following the Singapore Airlines turbulence incident nearly a week ago, 34 passengers are still hospitalized in Bangkok. The update on Monday confirmed that out of the 50 individuals on the London-Singapore flight on May 21, those requiring medical attention are among those remaining in the Thai capital. All crew members from flight SQ321 have returned to Singapore.
According to Thai authorities, most injuries suffered were related to the head or spine, with over a dozen individuals requiring surgical procedures. Singapore Airlines has responded by implementing stricter cabin regulations during turbulence, although they have not mandated passengers to keep their seatbelts fastened throughout the entire flight.
The airline has assured full cooperation with authorities conducting investigations on the incident that resulted in one fatality. The plane was forced to make an emergency landing at Suvarnabhumi Airport in Bangkok.
While occurrences of injuries or fatalities due to turbulence are uncommon, a recent incident involving a Qatar Airways flight flying over Turkey saw similar issues. The flight managed to land safely in Dublin despite encountering severe turbulence, resulting in injuries to twelve passengers onboard.
