Oscar Pistorius denied parole for killing his partner

Oscar Pistorius of South Africa was denied parole for killing his partner.

Before the murder conviction that terminated his career a year later, Pistorius, as “The Blade Runner,” rose to fame during the 2012 Paralympic Games.

Oscar Pistorius, a paralympic gold medalist from South Africa, was denied parole after asking for an early release from jail ten years after killing his girlfriend in a gunshot.

Tania Koen, an attorney for the victim’s family, said on Friday, “We were… notified that it has been denied and that it will be evaluated again in one year.”

According to the Department of Correctional Services, Pistorius had not served the minimum amount of time in custody necessary for parole.

Model Reeva Steenkamp was fatally shot by Oscar Pistorius on Valentine’s Day 2013, early in the morning, when he fired four times through the bathroom door of their Pretoria home.

Because of his carbon-fibre prosthetics, he is known as the “Blade Runner” and was initially sentenced to six years in prison in 2016. After the prosecution appealed, claiming that the original sentence was too mild, the sentence was raised to 13 years.

He had entered a not-guilty plea and claimed that he killed Steenkamp in a fit of rage because he thought she was a burglar.

The 36-year-old is being imprisoned in a prison outside of the capital, where a parole hearing was held on Friday.

After serving half of their sentence, inmates in South Africa are automatically eligible for parole consideration. Pistorius began his term in 2014 and has already completed more than half of it.
