Paris Airshow roundup day 2.

Airbus won the first day of the 2023 Paris Air Show thanks to its record-breaking 500-aircraft agreement with IndiGo. Day two of the show was successful for Boeing, Embraer, and ATR in securing their first orders of the year.

The last Boeing orders

China Airlines began by confirming eight Boeing 787-9 options. Six of the Taiwanese carrier’s previous orders were also upgraded to the larger 787-10 model, increasing the total number of 787s ordered to 24. The aircraft will supplement China Airlines’ other widebody fleet of 14 Airbus A350s and 10 Boeing 777-300ERs by replacing its ailing Airbus A330-300s.Air Algérie placed the second order, purchasing eight 737 MAX 9s and two 737 BCFs (Boeing Converted Freighters). The new aircraft will increase the carrier’s fleet of 31 Boeing 737s, which presently numbers 24 737-800s, two 737-300s, and five 737-600s. The 737 MAX 9’s increased range over the 737 MAX 8 will enable Air Algérie to fly new routes throughout Europe.

The aircraft lessor Avalon placed the largest order for Boeing that day for 40 Boeing 737 MAX 8s. Approximately 150 clients make up Avolon’s global clientele; the final destination of the aircraft is now unknown. However, the company’s CEO, Andy Cronin, did specifically name Akasa Air, an Indian airline, as one of the plane’s potential operators.

Additional Airbus planes for Qantas and TAAG

With Qantas adding nine more Airbus A220s to the 20 it already bought last year, Airbus also received its fair share of the action today. The airline will replace its outdated Boeing 717s with the narrowbody aircraft, primarily on domestic flights. The Airbus A220 was also well-liked by TAAG, the national airline of Angola, which said it will lease seven further A220s in addition to the six it had agreed to at the Farnborough Air Show last year. The airline plans to begin receiving the aircraft in 2025 and use them on a variety of local routes.

Confirming current orders

Philippine Airlines confirmed its order for nine Airbus A350-1000s today, which is not a fresh order. The airline intends to deploy the aircraft on an expanded route network to Europe and North America. The aircraft will join the airline’s fleet of nine Boeing 777-300ERs, ten A330-300s, and two A350-900s for long-distance travel.
