Gulf Energy Development, Advanced Info Service (AIS), and the Highland Research and Development Institute (public organization) have collaborated on the “Green Energy, Green Network For Thais” initiative to enhance the quality of life for residents in highland regions of Thailand.
Focused on providing solar-generated electricity to these communities and establishing solar-powered cellular base stations for improved digital connectivity, the project aims to bridge the digital divide in remote areas. Initial pilot projects in Ban Dok Mai Sod community and Moko Poke community in Tha Song Yang district, Tak province, mark the beginning of this endeavor.
As a major player in Thailand’s energy sector, Gulf Energy holds a significant stake in InTouch Holdings, AIS’s parent company. AIS CEO Somchai Lertsutiwong highlighted the joint effort’s objective of extending similar initiatives to other underserved regions lacking essential infrastructure.
By leveraging renewable energy technologies like solar cells, the project intends to enhance communication systems, enabling residents in remote areas to access vital services, education, and healthcare. This holistic approach seeks to empower communities economically and socially, promoting sustainable growth and reducing inequality.
Specifically, in the Moko Poke community, plans include transitioning from corn farming to specialized coffee bean cultivation to boost local economic prospects. This shift aims to uplift the community by introducing high-quality coffee products to wider markets and establishing a stable income source.
The Chief Operating Officer of Gulf, Theerathiphisa Tawichpasoot, highlighted the company’s commitment to bringing clean energy solutions and connectivity to underserved areas. Through prior projects and collaborations with AIS, Gulf remains dedicated to fostering long-term sustainability and empowering communities through technological advancements and renewable energy infrastructure.
