On Wednesday, a political network submitted a petition to the prime minister requesting that Thaksin Shinawatra, who has been in the hospital since the evening of his first day of imprisonment, be sent back to prison.
Thaksin, who claimed to be seriously ill, has reportedly been in the hospital for 23 days, according to Pichit Chaimongkol, leader of the Network of Students and People for Reform of Thailand.
We don’t think Thaksin was or is actually ill, and neither do many Thai people. He should have stayed in prison, but he is using his condition as an excuse to leave. He must be sent back to prison right away, we demand,” Pichit added.
Thaksin was moved from the Corrections Hospital to the Police General Hospital due to a number of medical conditions. Thaksin’s sentence was already commuted by the King from eight to one years in prison.
Pichit submitted the petition to the Government House complaints office. Additionally, he demanded that Srettha return political suspects who had fled to other nations so they may complete their prison terms.
