Airports of Thailand (AoT) has initiated a study for the development of a seaplane base adjacent to Phuket airport. The aim is to establish potential routes to popular destinations such as Koh Samui, Hua Hin, and Pattaya, which are known for their appeal to tourists interested in diving and island visits.

Visanu Prasarttong-Osoth, Chairman of AoT, stated that the study is expected to be completed within this year. He anticipates that it will pave the way for Thailand’s first seaplane terminal, which would significantly enhance marine tourism in the country.

Kerati Kijmanawat, President of AoT, mentioned that the seaplane base will be incorporated into the ongoing expansion plans for Phuket airport, estimated to cost around 8 billion baht. The construction of the seaplane terminal itself is not expected to be expensive. The tender process for the construction phase is projected to commence next year.

This project has garnered interest from both airlines and tourists alike. Mr. Kerati reported that airline operators have already expressed inquiries regarding the seaplane base. The addition of seaplane services is likely to be well-received and anticipated in the tourism industry.
