Police continue to investigate in highway bribery

An alleged bribery operation that allegedly allows freight trucks to avoid motorway checks is being looked into by the national police. Inspectors around the nation have been tasked by the police chief to look into the situation and punish any complicit personnel.

Truck drivers pay monthly fees to police officers in exchange for stickers that permit their trucks to pass through checkpoints, according to Wiroj Lakkhanaadisorn, a member of the Move Forward party.

The Royal Thai Police Commissioner General has directed the Office of Inspector General to look into the accusation in response to it. Statements from Wiroj, the Land Transport Federation of Thailand, and highway police officials will be requested.

According to the new National Police Act, this is the first case that the Police Complaint Review Board has handled. Members of the board include members from the local communities, judges, attorneys, lawyers, police commanders, and officers from the Office of Inspector General.

Specific sanctions will be included in the board’s conclusions, and they will be sent to the accused officers’ supervisors for prompt disciplinary action. Up to 15 days are anticipated for the board review procedure.
