The United States and Iran appear to be moving closer towards a potential agreement aimed at ending the Middle East conflict and easing tensions affecting global oil markets.

US President Donald Trump said a deal had been “largely negotiated”, while US Secretary of State Marco Rubio hinted that positive developments could come soon.

Iran confirmed ongoing discussions with Washington, describing them as a “trend towards rapprochement”, though officials stressed that major issues — particularly Iran’s nuclear programme — still require separate negotiations.

Reports suggest the proposed framework could include reopening the Strait of Hormuz, easing certain US sanctions, partial access to Iran’s frozen assets, and efforts to end fighting across multiple fronts, including Lebanon.

However, Iranian media said Tehran has not agreed to dismantle its nuclear programme or surrender enriched uranium stockpiles, with further nuclear negotiations expected within the next 30 to 60 days.
