Chai Wacharonke, a government spokesperson, announced that the upcoming Pride Month activities are expected to draw around 860,000 visitors and inject approximately 4 billion baht into the economy. The Tourism Authority of Thailand projected these figures as part of the government’s initiative to position the country as a welcoming destination for the LGBTQ+ community.
Emphasizing the significant purchasing power and longer stays of LGBTQ+ travelers, the government is actively engaging with this demographic. In collaboration with the private sector, various Pride-themed events are being organized across multiple provinces. Noteworthy events include the Colourful Pride Festival in Chiang Mai from May 25 to June 30, featuring vibrant parades and live performances.
Moreover, Bangkok will host the Bangkok Pride Festival 2024 from May 31 to June 4, showcasing a spectacular parade and performances by talented drag artists. Additionally, Koh Samui in Surat Thani province will present the Pride Nation Samui International Festival from June 24 to 29, highlighting performances by both local and international LGBTQ+ artists.
Citing a report by LGBT Capital, Mr. Chai mentioned that Thailand ranked fourth globally in terms of revenue generated from LGBTQ+ tourism last year. This underscores the country’s growing appeal as a preferred destination for LGBTQ+ travelers.
