In a bid to restore Lang Suan Road sidewalks for pedestrian use, the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) has removed street vendors operating along the footpaths in Pathumwan district.
The initiative was led by Bangkok Deputy Governor Jakkapan Phiewngam, who, along with Deputy Town Clerk Supakrit Boonkhant, inspected the area near the Chit Lom intersection on Tuesday to oversee the sidewalk improvement efforts.
Previously, street vendors were permitted to occupy specific sections of the Lang Suan Road sidewalks from 6 am to 3 pm. Fifty-eight vendors had registered and were granted permission to sell their goods along the road.
Mr. Jakkapan stated that the vendors had acknowledged and accepted the BMA’s decision, relocating to nearby alleys or choosing to return to their hometowns. Upon the vendors’ departure, workers from the Pathumwan District Office began the cleanup and repair of the area’s footpaths.
Furthermore, the Pathumwan District Office intends to enhance the footpaths along Witthayu Road. Vendors in this vicinity have also been notified that cooking or vending goods on the pavement will no longer be permitted. Violators could face fines of up to 2,000 baht, as emphasized by Mr. Jakkapan.
