According to Bloomberg News sources, Qatar Airways PJSC is close to making a significant decision regarding a substantial widebody aircraft order, which is expected to be split between Boeing BA.N and Airbus AIR.PA.
The airline based in the Middle East is contemplating purchasing approximately 200 aircraft, with a combination of Airbus A350s and Boeing 777X models under consideration. A decision could be reached as early as the upcoming Farnborough Air Show next month.
Qatar Airways, as well as Boeing and Airbus, have not yet responded to a request from Reuters seeking comments on this matter.
In March, Bloomberg had previously reported that Qatar Airways was engaging in preliminary discussions with both Boeing and Airbus regarding an order of 100 to 150 widebody aircraft for fleet expansion and renewal purposes.
Leading airlines are racing to acquire new widebody jets that are fuel-efficient in order to maintain lower operating costs and accommodate the increasing demand for international travel.
