Rama II Drama: Crane Truck Collapse Severely Injures Man

Bangkok’s Rama II Road witnessed another serious accident following the Dao Khanong Expressway Bridge collapse, as a crane truck used for tree pruning fell, critically injuring a 63-year-old man.

The incident occurred on March 20 near Soi 44 at approximately 2:30 p.m., according to JS100 Radio. The victim suffered a severe forehead injury and was in critical condition. Emergency responders provided a ventilator before rushing him to the hospital for urgent medical care. Authorities are currently investigating the cause of the collapse, as reported by KhaoSod.

Rama II Road, a crucial route connecting Bangkok to southern Thailand, has been the site of numerous accidents, particularly due to ongoing construction projects.

This latest accident follows the tragic bridge collapse on Rama II Road on March 15, which resulted in five deaths and 20 injuries. The collapse, linked to the Rama III-Dao Khanong expressway project, occurred in the early hours, sending a massive section of an under-construction bridge crashing down near Rama II Soi 25 in Chom Thong district.

Emergency teams, including forensic experts and volunteers, worked tirelessly to search for victims. Two more bodies were recovered from the debris, bringing the total death toll to five.

This is not the first major construction-related accident in the area. In November last year, a crane and precast concrete segments collapsed in Samut Sakhon province along Rama II Road, killing six and injuring eight construction workers.

The Thailand Structural Engineers Association (TSEA) has raised concerns over the frequent construction-related accidents on Rama II Road. They are calling for urgent reviews of ongoing projects, stricter enforcement of safety measures, and better oversight of construction materials, as reported by the Bangkok Post.

These recurring incidents highlight the urgent need for stricter safety protocols and rigorous supervision of construction activities to protect both workers and the public on Rama II Road.
