“Seal Stop Safe” Operation Leads to Major Drug Busts Across Thailand
The nationwide anti-drug operation “Seal Stop Safe” has resulted in the arrests of over a dozen suspects and the seizure of millions of methamphetamine pills, along with significant quantities of crystal meth, according to the Defence Ministry.
At a press conference on Friday, Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Phumtham Wechayachai provided an update on the operation’s success in disrupting drug trafficking networks across the country.
In northern Thailand, the Narcotics Suppression Bureau (NSB) intercepted 15.6 million methamphetamine pills from a suspect linked to an ethnic minority group. Additionally, two individuals from local tribes in Tak’s Phop Phra district were taken into custody, leading to the seizure of 12 million meth pills and assets valued at 1.6 million baht.
The crackdown extended to the Northeast, where authorities apprehended two suspects transporting four million meth pills from Nakhon Phanom to Sakon Nakhon. Their assets, estimated at 660,000 baht, were also confiscated.
Efforts to cut off drug routes heading south have also proven effective. In Chumphon, officers arrested two individuals smuggling 900,000 meth pills. Meanwhile, five suspects were detained while attempting to transport 234kg of crystal meth to the southern region.
With multiple drug seizures along the northern and northeastern borders, the operation has so far led to the confiscation of 37 million methamphetamine pills and more than 400kg of crystal meth, marking a significant blow to drug trafficking operations in Thailand.
