Authorities in Patong Bay continue their search for 38-year-old American tourist Nina Ng, who has been missing since February 27. Ng, a New Yorker, was last seen removing her life jacket and entering the water from a rented jet ski approximately one kilometer from Patong Beach. When she failed to return to shore, a search operation was launched.
Police Lieutenant Colonel Suchart Chumphusang, Investigation Superintendent at Patong Police Station, confirmed on March 4 that efforts to locate Ng remain active.
“The search will not be called off until her body is found,” he stated. While rescue teams have indicated that her chances of survival are slim, Chumphusang emphasized that no conclusions can be drawn until she is located.
“There remains a possibility that she was picked up by a passing boat and may still be alive,” he added. Authorities have urged local vendors and lifeguards to remain vigilant and report any sightings.

Ng’s belongings have been retrieved from her hotel, as March 4 marked her scheduled check-out date. Her family has been informed of the ongoing situation.
Phuket Member of Parliament Chalermpong Saengdee acknowledged that while efforts have been extensive, budget limitations have led to a reduction in search operations.
“We have expanded the search beyond Patong Bay into open waters, which presents additional challenges,” he explained. However, due to financial constraints, some units—including the Kusoldharm rescue team and dive specialists—have been withdrawn from active search efforts. Kusoldharm personnel, who searched for three days, ended their mission on March 1, citing the low likelihood of survival in open waters.

A rescue team member remarked, “At this point, all we can do is wait and see if a body surfaces.”
Authorities continue to appeal to the public for any information that may assist in locating Ng, urging anyone with relevant details to contact Patong Police Station immediately.
