Singaporeed for Making Bomb Threat Against Flight

Authorities have apprehended a man with a Singaporean passport in connection with a bomb threat made against an AirAsia flight en route from Bangkok to Hat Yai.

The threat was reported at 2:47 PM on Thursday when an individual, allegedly speaking Thai with an accent, contacted the public relations office at Don Mueang airport, claiming that an AirAsia flight to Hat Yai in Songkhla was carrying explosives.

Staff identified the threat as concerning flight FD 3114, which was preparing for takeoff at the time. Security personnel halted the flight for inspection, and it was ultimately canceled for a comprehensive check, requiring all 162 passengers and six crew members to disembark.

The emergency status for the aircraft was only lifted at 7:30 PM after security cleared the plane.

On Saturday, the Immigration Bureau reported that, after tracing the call, authorities arrested a man named Ho Wai Chong on Friday evening in the passenger terminal of Don Mueang airport. He had allegedly made the call while at the terminal.

According to his passport, he is a Singaporean national, and immigration checks revealed that he had overstayed his visa.

The suspect confessed to making the call, explaining that he felt compelled to do so due to family-related stress. He has been initially charged with overstaying his visa by 28 days and is undergoing further legal proceedings.

The offender had previously entered Thailand multiple times using an Apec Card and has no prior record of misconduct. Due to the severe nature of the aviation law violation, he could face up to 15 years in prison and will be banned from re-entering the country after serving his sentence.
